Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just buy the software and use my
own reader? Because we need to make sure that the
reader is the correct model number using the correct drivers, we provide one with each
license.
Can I add more than one reader to a single
computer? That function is not supported.
Also, a USB device can not reliably go more than 25
feet. You can, however, set up multiple workstations (up to 5 in the basic package)
Can I use the same software on multiple
computers? The basic packages include 5 licenses for 5 computers on a LAN.
Those 5 users can be any combination of active readers or administrative nodes. The files can be shared from a single mapped network path on a server or or workstation. We do not install a separate copy of the data file on each node. So you can have two reader systems at different locations, a node in accounting to handle the payroll reporting and a node in the manager's office to handle scheduling and viewing active logins. Add another reader to a node for another clock-in/clock out terminal.
Can I read the reports
remotely off the LAN, like by modem or the Internet? Yes, you can if you are technically
capable of setting up Windows terminal services or using ftp
to get the files, or by using PCAnywhere.
What happens if an employee's fingers are really dirty? The reader performs very well with dirty hands, but there is no exact way to relate amount of dirt to readability since it depends on whether the impressions (ridges) are readable. As you know, your kids can make some pretty nice fingerprints on walls with very dirty hands. It is best to tell the users to wipe and wash if they are filthy (mainly because they will mess up the reader). If the user gets a bad cut and alters the pattern of the print significantly you may have to register another finger for that user. It takes just a few minutes to re-register another finger.
Do dirty fingers ruin the reader? If the reader surface gets gunked up with dirt, it will absolutely have trouble reading prints but will not be destroyed. It is very easily cleaned by using a strip of office cellophane tape and lifting the dirt off. It is not waterproof and can not be washed with water. Follow the cleaning instructions carefully. Like all company equipment, it should be treated with care.
Doe the scheduler have fixed breaks and
defined lock-out times? Yes. You may set up break
period and define a window of time during which clock-in and
clock-outs may occur. You can get exception reports any time.
What is the warranty? One
year.
Can I just get the whole thing, computer
and all, from you? Yes, we can provide the
computer and software for you based on your needs. We offer
ruggedized machines and small boxes. Most of the time there is
an unused old PC around somewhere that most users can get
there hands on. As long as it runs XP or Windows 2000 it will
work. A small hard drive is all that is needed.
