Northern Michigan's only accredited museum with continuously changing exhibits, lectures, workshops, and classes in art, history and science. Among the museum's permanent exhibits are the Gallery of Man, lumbering and farming exhibits, the Avenue of Shops, a Foucault Pendulum, "Jesse Besser, the Man and His Times" and several restored historic buildings.
The Sky Theater Planetarium takes you through the travels of the universe. Shows are Sunday at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. The museum is open seven days a week.
The Island Park & Wildfowl Sanctuary boasts scores of plant and bird species. Children of all ages delight in feeding the resident wildfowl. The island, accessible by a foot bridge, offers a foot trail and fishing platforms. Located at the corner of US-23 and Long Rapids Road. Handicapped accessible, key for gate is available at the Holiday Inn.
