This one-room school operated until 1961. Tongue-and-groove board walls and ceiling, original teacher's desk and book cabinet, and a variety of desks showing changes over the years, take older visitors back to their school days, and younger ones to a whole different idea of school. The back room, once storage for fuel, has been converted to an archive for information related to Vergennes Township and its schools.
The Fallasburg Schoolhouse, built in 1867 and recently completely restored, is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, 2-6 PM, through September. Admission free;donation requested. During the school year the school will be open to school and other groups by appointment at nominal charge; call 616-897-6430.
