It started MAY 17th, 2002
the MEGA Millions Lottery Game
The Big Game is bigger – so big that the name of the game was changed to Mega Millions!
The initial addition of the New York and Ohio lotteries to the Big Game group necessitated the creation of the new Mega Millions game. The new game is expected to achieve average jackpots of $80 million with the potential to exceed $500 million based upon expected ticket sales across all participating jurisdictions. Tickets for the Mega Millions game are now sold exclusively in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.. The game features a minimum jackpot of $10 million, offers nine ways to win and has overall odds of 1 in 43 of winning a cash prize.
Tickets for Mega Millions first went on sale Wednesday, May 15, 2002 and cost $1 per wager. Just like the previous Big Game, the live drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday in Atlanta, Georgia. The first televised Mega Millions drawing was conducted on Friday, May 17, 2002 at 11 p.m. EST.
Mega Millions, an enhanced version of The Big Game, succeeded The Big Game. The final drawing for The Big Game was held on Tuesday, May 14, 2002.

NOTE: The MegaMillions number range is different than the previous BigGame. You now must pick numbers from 1 to 52 for EACH regular position AND the White Ball. In the BigGame you picked from 1 to 50 for the regular positions and from 1 to 36 for the BigBall. The addition of these extra numbers has raised the odds of winning a large prize dramatically. See the odds below.
